Frequently Asked Questions

Are we able to try the classes before enrolling?

Yes! We offer a 4-week paid trial period for Uni-Teds, Juniors, Inters and Adult Tap. It's a great way to step into our dance classes and see if they’re the right fit—no pressure, no long-term commitment. There’s no need to buy a uniform during the trial, just come along in something comfy and give it a go! It’s all about having fun, getting a feel for the class, and seeing if you’d like to keep dancing with us. To find out more, get in touch.

Our Tiny Twirler Pre-School classes offer a PAYG option on Friday mornings in Milton Keynes (Wolverton).

Do students need to wear uniform?

Yes. Our class uniforms and where to purchase them are listed on our Uniform page. Miss Micaela often has second hand uniform and ballet/tap shoes available to purchase for a small fee.

Pupils on a 4-week trial do not need to wear uniform until they have decided to enrol. During the trial period pupils should come to class in comfortable clothes and flat shoes or trainers.

Do your students get to perform in shows?

We want everyone to be part of our school and love to have everyone in our shows. Our school year is set like this, although if other performance opportunities come up that we can do, we will take them.

In November we take part in the Tapathon - raising funds for Children In Need whilst trying to beat the world record for the largest number of Tappers doing the same routine in multiple locations.

We do a small Christmas performance at the end of the Autumn term.

We do an in-house Cheer competition in January.

We have exams in May.

In July, we do our larger end of year show and Juniors and above in Milton Keynes have the option to take part in the Newport Pagnell Carnival.

Do you offer exams?

Yes, we do offer examinations with The United Kingdom Alliance (U.K.A.) – but they’re always optional. To make sure no one misses out, we start our youngest dancers with the Uni-Ted Award programme. These fun, no-pressure examinations are a gentle introduction to the exam process, helping children build confidence so that when they reach higher grades, they feel relaxed and prepared.

All exam work is taught within regular class time, as the steps learned are the very foundations that help every child grow into a stronger, more confident dancer.

What do the classes cost?

I work hard to ensure my classes offer good value for money and won't break the bank.

If you decide to enrol after a 4-week trial period you will pay a monthly fee over 12 months. This spreads the costs of classes (term time only) across the year. There is also a small annual payment to cover insurance costs.

If you wish to take exams (optional) there is a cost and these will be advised each year.

The annual show and other showcases/events are offered as close to cost as possible.

To get the most up to date pricing please get in touch and I will be happy to send you full details of the trial cost, monthly class and insurance costs.

Can I watch my child's class?

Preschool classes are heavily parent-led to start with as this is where Miss Micaela starts to build bonds and trust with the children. She fully understands that children at this age haven't experienced this class environment and the class alters depending on what the children need week by week. Parents are encouraged to stay and join in.

Uni-teds and above: During your child's first session you are invited to sit in and help settle your child. This gives you a chance to see how our classes work and gives you things to talk about after the class. After week one (if there are no separation issues) we ask you to wait outside the class. All our venues have glass panel doors and external windows where you can see what is happening in class at all times. Keeping you outside means you can chat to other parents and have a bit of time to yourself.

At MAPA Dancing we are encouraging children to be independent humans. You may see Miss Micaela not helping the little ones to undo their shoe laces but guiding them through explaining how they do it. This works best when parents aren't in the room. They need to learn that other people can help them (our teachers, chaperones, older students) and not always having to rely on a parent/carer.

Uni-teds parents, it helps if you remain on site as you may be needed for a toilet run.

Junior and Inters: Parents do not need to stay on site, but please do make sure the hall doors are open when you do drop off, to ensure a teacher is on site. In 25 years a student has never been dropped off with no teacher present, but better safe than sorry!

Adult Tappers: Your parents can come and join in, although you may need to assist them with the toilet runs :)
